JIA Zhangke

Jury President

Jia Zhangke graduated from the Beijing Film Academy and has directed eleven feature-length films and numerous short films since 1998. His works have garnered many awards and nominations at international film festivals, including Xiao Wu (1998), his debut feature film, which won the International Forum of New Cinema at Berlin; Still Life (2006) received the Golden Lion Award at Venice; A Touch of Sin (2013) won the award for Best Screenplay at Cannes; Mountains May Depart (2015) was nominated for the Palme d’Or at Cannes and won Best Original Screenplay at the Taiwan Golden Horse Awards. In 2015, he was awarded with Carrosse d’Or at the 68th Cannes International Film Festival. He has been jury member for the main competitions for Cannes, Venice and San Sebastian Film Festivals. Currently he is Vice President of China Film Directors’ Guild, and the Director of the Shanghai Vancouver Film School. He has also launched “JiaScreen”, a video platform which introduces short films from around the world to China. Jia has won Best Director for Still Life and Best Screenwriter for Mountains May Depart at the 1st and 10th Asian Film Awards respectively.
