2013년 3개의 아시아 주요 영화제 – 부산, 홍콩, 도쿄영화제가 합작해서 비영리 조직 아시안 필름 어워드 아카데미(이하 AFA 아카데미)를 만들었습니다. AFA아카데미는 아시아 영화와 그 가능성을 개발 육성하기 위한 조직입니다. AFA아카데미는 매년 열리는 영화제를 통해 아시아 영화 산업과 문화를 발전시키고 더욱 빛나게 할 것입니다. 그리고 몇 년 동안 이 지역과 해외 관객 유치를 위한 다양한 활동을 전개해왔습니다. AFA 아카데미의 회원들은 아시아 영화제의 모든 후보자와 수상자들입니다. 회원들은 아시안 필름 어워드에 투표로 참여할 수 있으며 또한 전세계의 관객들과 영화제작자들과 함께하는 다양한 AFA아카데미 활동도 참여가 가능합니다.

The Best New Director Awards have been presented since the 12th AFA.
The Lifetime Achievement Awards have been presented since the 2nd AFA, and suspended at the 3rd, 7th, 14th and 15th AFA.
The Highest-Grossing Asian Film Awards have been presented since the 4th AFA, and suspended at the 11th and 14th AFA.
The Excellence in Asian Cinema Awards (previously named “Outstanding Contribution to Asian Cinema”) have been suspended at the 2nd, 6th, 8th, 10th and 14th AFA.
