IFC 2024 Short A South Facing Window Selected for the Toronto International Film Festival
Advances to Another Prestigious Global Stage Following Locarno Film FestivalOrganised by the Asian Film Awards Academy, the International Film Camp (IFC) in 2024 produced a number of outstanding works. Among them, A South Facing Window, directed by Mongolian filmmaker Lkhagvadulam Purev-Ochir, has taken another significant step on the global stage. Following its earlier selection for the prestigious Locarno Film Festival in Switzerland, the film will now be featured in the Short Cuts programme at the 50th Toronto International Film Festival (TIFF 50), where it will compete for awards.
Founded in 1976, the Toronto International Film Festival is one of the world’s most influential film events, annually gathering some of the most acclaimed works and creative talents from around the globe. Having previously participated in the festival, Lkhagvadulam Purev-Ochir returns once again, further affirming the continued rise of her creative voice.
A South Facing Window tells a poignant story set in the bustling city of Ulaanbaatar, focusing on the strained relationship of a young couple. In a new yet hollow apartment, tensions flare over their daughter, careers, and emotional wounds from the past. Suffocated by mistakes and the pressures of reality, they struggle to find hope and a future amidst the chaos of the city. The work offers a heartfelt portrayal of the conflict and longing faced by modern urban dwellers between family bonds and the weight of everyday life.
The IFC is dedicated to nurturing a new generation of Asian filmmaking talent, offering professional mentorship, cross-cultural exchange, and production funding of HK$300,000 to bring their short film concepts to life. The 2025 edition of the International Film Camp will take place from 10 September at a resort under Sands China Ltd. in Macao. The Asian Film Awards Academy invites the public to continue following the programme as it paves the way for the next emerging filmmaker to step onto the world stage.
iIFC is organised by the Asian Film Awards Academy, and supported by CCIDAHK, the Film Development Fund, Sands China Ltd, and Shaw Studios.
