2025年11月03日

Co-organised by the Asian Film Awards Academy (AFAA) and the Hong Kong Economic and Trade Office in Singapore, with financially supported from the Cultural and Creative Industries Development Agency (CCIDAHK), and Film Development Fund of the Government of the Hong Kong SAR, the Hong Kong Film Gala Presentation – Vietnam will take place from 6 to 8 November 2025 at Galaxy Cinema, Thiso Mall Sala, Ho Chi Minh City.

Making its Vietnam debut, the event will feature two legendary Hong Kong film icons — Sammo Hung and Louis Koo, who will attend the opening ceremony in person. Under the theme “Together We Dare to be Powerful,” the programme celebrates the courage and creativity of Hong Kong filmmakers in pushing boundaries and exploring new possibilities for Asian cinema. The event will include a grand opening ceremony and four Hong Kong film screenings, inviting Vietnamese audiences to experience the power and diversity of Hong Kong cinema on the big screen.

This year, the Hong Kong Film Gala Presentation has already travelled to Dubai, Bangkok, Kuala Lumpur, Phnom Penh, and Jakarta, successfully bringing Hong Kong films to audiences across Asia and inspiring cultural exchange and creative dialogue. The stop in Ho Chi Minh City marks a new milestone in the tour’s journey. Dr. Wilfred WONG, GBM, GBS, JP, Chairman of the Asian Film Awards Academy and Chairperson of the Hong Kong Film Development Council, will also attend the event. He remarked, “Vietnam is a vibrant and creative film market. Bringing the Hong Kong Film Gala Presentation to Ho Chi Minh City symbolizes Hong Kong cinema’s growing presence across Asia. Through this platform, we hope to share the spirit and creativity of Hong Kong films with more audiences in the region.”

The Vietnam edition will open with Hong Kong’s action blockbuster Twilight of the Warriors: Walled In. The Opening Ceremony, taking place on the evening of November 6 at Galaxy Cinema, will be graced by the film’s leading stars Sammo Hung and Louis Koo, who will attend in person and appear on the red carpet. Both actors, representing two pinnacles of Hong Kong cinema—action and performance—will personally meet Vietnamese audiences and share their passion for filmmaking. For local film lovers, this encounter is a rare and exciting opportunity to appreciate Hong Kong’s cinematic artistry, from its masterful action choreography to its compelling storytelling, while feeling the presence of two of the industry’s most celebrated figures.

The announcement of their attendance in Vietnam has already garnered significant local media coverage and enthusiastic responses from fans. Sammo Hung shared, “Hong Kong action films have their own unique charm, and the perseverance of Hong Kong filmmakers is what keeps our cinema moving forward.” Louis Koo added, “I hope the Vietnamese audience can feel the magic and sincerity of Hong Kong cinema. The film’s action and story are truly captivating, and I look forward to meeting my fans in Vietnam again.”

In addition to the opening film, three other Hong Kong titles will be showcased: Stuntman, a tribute to the resilience and spirit of Hong Kong stunt professionals; Four Trails, a documentary capturing the endurance and determination of extreme athletes; and Last Song for You, a moving story of love across time. Together, these four films embody the theme “Together We Dare to be Powerful”—highlighting how Hong Kong filmmakers continue to create with courage, sincerity, and passion despite challenges and limitations.

Director Herbert Leung of Stuntman will also join a special sharing session on November 7, engaging in an in-depth creative dialogue with Vietnamese filmmakers. The session will be hosted by popular Vietnamese actress Nguyễn Lâm Thảo Tâm and feature acclaimed director Trần Thanh Huy, whose film Ròm won the New Currents Award at the 2019 Busan International Film Festival. Together, the two directors will explore the evolution of action cinema and filmmaking culture across Asia. On the same evening, Director Leung will also attend the 7:00 PM screening of Stuntman and join a post-screening discussion, where he will share insights about his work with the audience.

The Hong Kong Film Gala Presentation – Vietnam not only showcases the creativity and strength of Hong Kong cinema but also serves as a bridge connecting filmmakers and audiences across Asia. Through collaboration and exchange, the spirit of “Together We Dare to be Powerful” continues to shine brightly across the region.
