Director Herman Yau and Actor Kenny Wong to attend the Hong Kong Film Gala Presentation in Bangkok
Director Nick Cheuk (Time Still Turns the Pages), director Ho Miu Ki (Love Lies), and actor Jozev Kiu (Twilight of the Warriors: Walled In) will also go to Bangkok to meet the audience in Thailand!
A new edition of Hong Kong Film Gala Presentation and Dynamic Cityscapes of Hong Kong Films Exhibition will be held in Bangkok, Thailand from 16-25 August, with the financial support from Cultural and Creative Industries Development Agency (CCIDAHK), Hong Kong Film Development Fund (FDF), and Hong Kong Economic and Trade Office in Bangkok (Bangkok ETO), in collaboration with HOUSE Samyan, the first arthouse/alternative cinema in Bangkok. The programme will be opened with two films, the phenomenal hit of the year Twilight of the Warriors: Walled In by Soi Cheang and the latest epic film Customs Frontline by Herman Yau, and present the Thai premiere of seven other films including, Peg O’ My Heart by Nick Cheung, Love Lies by Ho Miu Ki, Time Still Turns the Pages by Nick Cheuk, In Broad Daylight by Lawrence Kan, Stand Up Story by Au Cheuk Man, Back Home by Nate Ki and Center Stage (4K restored version) by Stanley Kwan.
Presented by Asian Film Awards Academy, financially supported by the CCIDAHK and FDF, the Hong Kong Film Gala Presentation introduces the rich and vibrant creativity of contemporary Hong Kong films made by exciting new local talents, with the mission to establish strong relations and bring together film professionals from ASEAN countries and Hong Kong for an in-depth discussion on the art of cinema and collaboration. Since 2021, we have been to many international cities such as Singapore, Kuala Lumpur, Phnom Penh, Jakarta and so on.
Hong Kong film talents will visit Bangkok to attend the event, including Kenny Wong and Jozev Kiu, actors from Twilight of the Warriors: Walled In, director Herman Yau of Customs Frontline, director Nick Cheuk of Time Still Turns the Pages and director Ho Miu Ki of Love Lies. They will meet the audience at post-screening Q&A sessions of their respective films, and be interviewed by local media outlets, while directors Herman Yau, Nick Cheuk and Ho Miu Ki will share their thoughts on current trend of Hong Kong and Thai film markets, co-production and challenges and solutions they face when making films, at a seminar taking place in Chulalongkorn University.
The Opening Ceremony of the 10-day event will be held on 16 August at HOUSE Samyan, with the attendance of film directors and actors from Hong Kong, alongside Thai actors Chantavit Dhanasevi (Ter), Pruk Panich (Zee), directors and film professionals.
Dynamic Cityscapes of Hong Kong Films Exhibition will be held in association with the Hong Kong Film Gala Presentation, with the financial support from the Bangkok ETO. The exhibition is a celebration and demonstration of Hong Kong’s diverse landscapes, featuring re-creation of the iconic scenes from five recent Hong Kong films and memorable Hong Kong sights that are often memorized in films. These include a recreation of Kowloon Walled City for Twilight of the Warriors: Walled In, the scenery of Victoria Harbour and a cargo ship for Customs Frontline, an interactive installation of a bank vault and banknotes for The Goldfinger, a classroom filled with books signifying the stress faced by students for Time Still Turns the Pages, and the traditional Hong Kong Chinese restaurant for Fly Me to the Moon. Hong Kong-style teahouse (Cha Chaan Teng), neon light signs and bamboo theatres are elements that cannot be missed when we talk about iconic representation of Hong Kong’s urban cityscapes, which are often featured in Hong Kong films.
