Daniel Yu entered the Asian entertainment business since 1986. He co-founded Team Work Productions in 1990 with Andy Lau. The company’s debut film Saviour of The Soul was a commercial success. In 1997, he produced one of the most culturally significant Hong Kong films Made in Hong Kong.

From 2004 to 2006, he acted as COO for Focus Films Limited. He wrote and directed All About Love, and spearheaded a series of films under the banner Focus First Cuts. The series achieved tremendous success at various Asian and International film festivals. One of the films Crazy Stone (directed by Ning Hao) was a box office smash in China.

In 2008, he relocated to Beijing and produced No Man’s Land (directed by Ning Hao) and The Butcher, The Chef and The Swordsman (directed by Wu Ershan). In 2014, he joined Emperor Motion Pictures as Production Controller and monitored productions of various scales including To The Fore, Sara, Two Thumbs Up, Heaven in the Dark, Happiness, and Mrs K.

As Production Consultant for Dirty Monkey Films from 2016, he produced Ning Hao’s Crazy Alien and also oversaw the company’s new directors project The 72 Changes that recruited ten new directors in China.

His latest producing credit is Ning Hao’s The Movie Emperor, set to be released in early 2024.
