2024年06月27日

The inaugural Hong Kong Film Gala Presentation , to be held in Phnom Penh for the first time, is set to captivate audiences with a spectacular lineup of cinematic treasures. Presented by the Asian Film Awards Academy, in collaboration with Westec Media Limited and financially supported by Hong Kong’s Cultural and Creative Industries Development Agency (CCIDA), Film Development Fund and Hong Kong Economic and Trade Office, the programme will showcase 7 specially selected Hong Kong films at Fable Cinema, Factory Phnom Penh from 3 to 7 July 2024!

As part of the programme, The Dynamic Cityscapes of Hong Kong Films Exhibition will be held concurrently at Factory Phnom Penh from 4 July until 4 August 2024, 10AM – 7PM daily. The admission is free and exhibition materials are in English and Khmer. The Dynamic Cityscapes of Hong Kong Films Exhibition is a celebration and demonstration of Hong Kong’s diverse cityscapes, recreating the most memorable scenes that appeared in the specially selected films, as well as iconic sights in Hong Kong.

The Hong Kong Film Gala Presentation will commence with Hong Kong’s recent blockbuster, “Twilight of the Warriors: Walled In”, much-loved for its action choreography and exceptional set design which re-creates the enigmatic and dangerous Kowloon Walled City, which was demolished in 1994. John Chong, producer of the film, together with Angus Chan, the presenter and actor Jozev Kiu, will attend the event to kick off the film programme and to share some insights on the production of this film.

Another highlight of the program is “Out of Shadow”. Director, Ricky Ko and lead actress, Larine Tang will be present at the kick-off event and the post-screening Q&A session. Kinnie Cheung, the producer of “As It Burns” will also join.

The program also includes the family drama, “Fly Me to the Moon”, a directorial debut by Sasha Chuk. It tells the story of reconciliation with one’s parents and oneself. Also included in the program is “I Did It My Way” starring Andy Lau, Eddie Peng and Lam Ka-tung. “The Goldfinger” a Hong Kong crime epic directed by Felix Chong is also in the line-up. The programme closes with the 4K restored version of Wong Kar-wai’s “In the Mood for Love”, in which some of the scenes were shot in Angkor Wat, Cambodia. All the films will be screened in its original language with English, Khmer and Chinese subtitles.

The programme will feature panel discussions and filmmaker sessions in Cambodia. There will be a business forum for Asian buyers and distributors on different perspectives on the evolving trends in Asian film acquisitions, the challenges and opportunities in acquiring Asian film content and insiders’ views on Hong Kong film distribution in recent years.

John Chong, a veteran Hong Kong cinema producer of the acclaimed Infernal Affairs trilogy and Angus Chan, the presenter of “Twilight of the Warriors: Walled In” will speak in the forum. They will share their experiences in crafting captivating narratives for commercial films and producing boundary-pushing works.

Ricky Ko, a promising new director, and Jozev Kiu, an action actor, will engage with local filmmakers and participate in various sharing sessions to further expand the reach of Hong Kong Cinema.

Josie Lin, Executive Director of Asian Film Awards Academy express sincere gratitude to all co-organizers for their joint effort in this exhibition, she said, “The efforts of various organizations and individuals have enabled Cambodian audiences to access the latest Hong Kong films. The Academy will continue working diligently to further increase the exposure and influence of Hong Kong cinema across the broader Asian market.”

Parson Lam, Director of the Hong Kong Economic and Trade Office (HKETO), said, “We look forward to having more Hong Kong film events in Cambodia to showcase the thriving Hong Kong film industry and its gifted talents, and to reinforce Hong Kong’s position as an East-meets-West centre for international cultural exchange.”
