With the shared objective of promoting and recognizing outstanding Asian cinematic works, the Asian Film Awards Academy (AFAA) collaborates with the Asian Film Festival Barcelona (AFFBCN) again in presenting AFAA’s flagship film roadshow – Asian Cinerama (the programme). Financially supported by Create Hong Kong and the Film Development Fund of the Hong Kong SAR Government, Asian Cinerama had taken place at Caixa Forum, Cinemes Girona and The Filmoteca de Catalunya from 31 October to 10 November 2019 in Barcelona, Spain.

The programme is opened with Still Human directed by Oliver CHAN who won the Best New Director Award at the 13th Asian Film Awards (AFA13). Leading actress Crisel CONSUNJI had attend post-screening Q&A sessions. It is close with director WEN Muye’s debut feature, Dying to Survive, based on a real-life story about a Chinese businessman illegally imports cheap generic medicine for circumventing big pharma.

Other outstanding Asian films that will showcase in the programme include, Ayka, which depicts the struggle of a young mother from Kyrgyzstan, showing the decision between morality and survival; Believer talks about a police detective seeks to break the Asia’s biggest drug cartel, cooperating with the drug cartels’ members; The main character of Bulbul Can Sing insists to find out the possibilities in her life while facing limitations of the society and to figure out who she is; Jinpa, directed by Pema Tseden who was nominated with Best Film and Best Director in AFA13, talks about the revenge and redemption of a driver and killer.

 

The Crossing describes a high school girl living in a singly non-permanent resident family, being a parallel trader travelling between Hong Kong and Shenzhen. Three Husbands is the last installment of the “Prostitute Trilogy” directed by Fruit CHAN, tells a story of desire through the life of a prostitute living on the sea with her three husbands; Tracey portrays how a middle-aged married man whose gender is mismatched makes his life-changing decision.

香港 Both opening and closing films of Asian Cinerama, Hokusai and Waiting for My Cup of Tea, made their Hong Kong premiere at the programme.
ワルシャワ The best film of the 15th Asian Film Awards "Wife of a Spy" had its grand premiere in Warsaw, and director Kiyoshi Kurosawa also participated in the online sharing session.
トロント For the first time, Asian Cinerama was held in Toronto, allowing local audiences to watch different styles of Asian films.
ハワイ州 Over thousand audiences watched different Asian films through Asian Cinerama in Hawaii.
香港 We were grateful to see a full house for opening film Longman Leung’s Anita screening.
