Organised by the Asian Film Awards Academy, The 17th Asian Film Awards will be held on 10 March at Xiqu Centre in the West Kowloon Cultural District, and numerous Asian filmmakers from various fields will gather in Hong Kong for this annual occasion. After announcing our first wave of events, Asian Cinerama – 17th Asian Film Awards Selection with already sold-out screenings, we are unveiling three more exciting programmes, which include KUROSAWA Kiyoshi X Fruit CHAN – Masterclass, In Conversation with Asian Filmmakers, and World Premiere of Under Parallel Skies, starring Win Metawin, awardee of the AFA Rising Star Award. Some programmes are now open for registration, so don’t miss out the chance.

KUROSAWA Kiyoshi X Fruit CHAN – Masterclass

Two veteran film masters, Jury President of this year’s Asian Film Awards, renowned Japanese director KUROSAWA Kiyoshi and Award-winning independent Hong Kong director Fruit CHAN, will share their filmmaking experiences and artistic concepts, guiding the audience on a profound exploration of the boundless possibilities of film art. Presented by the Asian Film Awards Academy, KUROSAWA Kiyoshi X Fruit CHAN – Masterclass will be held on 8 March, 2024 19:30 at Hong Kong Design Institute.

In Conversation with Asian Filmmakers Gathering over 20 nominees of AFA17

A feast of art spanning across geographical boundaries, bringing together a multitude of over 20 Asian filmmakers both in front of and behind the scenes, takes the form of six themed panel discussions. New directors, actors, cinematographers, editors, production designers, and costume designers will introduce and discuss on their creative experiences, artistic concepts, and respective expertise, sparking inspiration and collision of ideas among filmmakers from various regions.

 

Actors and actresses from various regions, including Taiwanese versatile diva Wan Fang, Hong Kong aspiring actresses Rachel LEUNG and Yoyo TSE, Mongolian rising star Tergel BOLD-ERDENE, emerging Thai actor Awat RATANAPINTHA and Japanese young actress SHIRATA Mihaya, will share on their performing journey with each other and interact with the audience.

In addition, internationally acclaimed filmmakers, including new directors Nick CHEUK, Lkhagvadulam PUREV-OCHIR, Dominic SANGMA, Oscar-winning production designer Tim YIP, production and costume designers Eric LAM, MAN Lim Chung, MITSUMATSU Keiko, Elaine NG, ZHANG Menglun, editors Keith CHAN Hiu Chun, Matthieu LACLAU, YAMAZAKI Azusa, and cinematographers KITAGAWA Yoshio and CHENGMA Zhiyuan, will share their creative insights in different fields of film production.

Finale event! AFA Rising Star Awardee Win Metawin’s New Film

World Premiere of Under Parallel Skies in Hong Kong!

 

Thai star Win will be honored with the AFA Rising Star Award at the 17th Asian Film Awards, making him the first Thai recipient of this prestigious accolade. His breakthrough came with the TV series 2gether: The Series, instantly capturing the hearts of fans throughout Asia. Film version of the series, also his film debut 2gether: The Movie, attracted full houses on its first day of release in Hong Kong. This year, Win will continue to showcase his talent with his second film Under Parallel Skies. The film follows the story of a Thai bachelor who travels to Hong Kong in search of his missing mother. He encounters a Filipino hotelier who helps him navigate love, heartbreak, and healing in the foreign city amid their differences in culture and identity.

 

Win will attend the 17th Asian Film Awards ceremony in person to receive the AFA Rising Star Award on stage. Together with Under Parallel Skies lead actress Janella SALVADOR, film executive producer Richard JUAN, and director Sigrid BERNARDO, he will meet fans and audiences at the world premiere of this film.

The Asian Films Awards Academy, a non-profit organization, was founded by Busan, Hong Kong and Tokyo International Film Festivals with the shared goal of celebrating excellence in Asian cinema. Aiming to promote and recognize Asian films and its talents, AFAA highlights, strengthens and develops Asian film industry through the annual Asian Film Awards and several year-round initiatives. The Asian Film Awards was inaugurated in 2007, where members of AFAA are drawn from its past nominees and winners. The category of awards includes Best Film, Best Director, Best Actor and Best Actress.
