In the 16th Asian Film Awards Press Conference, we are honoured to have invited Director Mabel CHEUNG, Actress Chrissie CHAU, Youth Ambassador LIN Min Chen, Actress Angela YUEN and Actor LING Man-lung to announce this year’s nomination list. Announcing our nominees aside, our guests also joined us in shooting various upcoming promotional videos. 

Over the last week, the academy prepared the behind-the-scenes video below, to give a glimpse of your favourite talents and take a closer look at them. Do you discover a different side of them? Spoiler: another behind-the-scenes video is coming soon, stay tuned!

 

Asian Film Awards Academy

The AFAA is formed by three (3) established Asian Film Festivals – Busan, Hong Kong and Tokyo in 2013. It highlights, strengthens, and develops Asian film industry and culture through the annual Asian Film Awards, and several year-round initiatives for building regional and international audiences such as the Masterclass Series, Film Craft Workshops, Asian Cinerama, Journey to the Fest, Young Film Professionals Training Program, and Hong Kong Film Gala Presentation.

 

Mabel CHEUNG

Mabel CHEUNG is a Hong Kong film director and screenwriter who directed and produced numerous classic films. After her graduation from the New York University Graduate Film School, she debuted with The Illegal Immigrant under the support from Shaw Brothers in 1985 and won the Best Director Award at the Hong Kong Film Award as a rookie. Later, her second film An Autumn’s Tale (1987) has also won the Best Film Award at the Hong Kong Film Awards. In 1998, she produced the nostalgic romantic film City of Glass (1998) with her academic background at the University of Hong Kong and won the Best Original Screenplay at the Golden Horse Awards. In 2010, Echoes of Rainbow, produced by CHEUNG, became the first Hong Kong film to win the Crystal Bear Award at the Berlin Film Festival. CHEUNG had served as the jury president of the 9th Asian Film Awards (AFA), leading the jury committee in choosing the representative outstanding Asian productions. Besides being the lead in romantic-literary films, the world premiere of CHEUNG latest directed documentary To My Nineteen Year Old Self (2022) was also presented at the 46th Hong Kong International Film Festival.

 

LING Man Lung

LING Man Lung is a Hong Kong actor, graduated from The Hong Kong Academy for Performing Arts The School of Drama, he then joined the Hong Kong Repertory Theatre. In 2018, he made his big-screen debut with Tomorrow is Another Day, playing the role of an autistic son and won the Best New Actor Award at the 37th Hong Kong Film Awards, and the Bright Star Award in Chicago Asian Pop-Up Cinema. LING was also shortlisted for the 20th Shanghai International Film Festival for Asian New Talent Best Actor, the 12th Asian Film Awards for Best New Comer, and the 37th Hong Kong Film Awards Best Actor with his role in Tomorrow is Another Day. LING then subsequently starred in numerous Hong Kong films, including A Witness Out of The Blue (2019) , Missing (2019) and Shock Wave 2 (2020). In 2022, with his role of Shun in Hong Kong TV Series In Geek We Trust (2022), LING won the Best Rising Star Awards in the 4th Asia Contents Award under 27th Busan International Film Festival.

 

Angela YUEN Lai LamAngela YUEN is a Hong Kong actress. She debuted as a model in 2013, starred in numerous advertisements and music videos. Angela started gaining attention with her appearance on TV series 3 X 1 (2016). In 2017, she first played the lead role in movie Our 17 and TV series Margaret & David – Ex. In the same year, her film The White Girl had been selected as the closing film of the Hong Kong Asian Film Festival. Later, she received more popularity with her starring in various TV and film productions, including TV series I SWIM (2022), Chilli Laugh Story (2022), and Hong Kong Family (2022). In 2022, she was first nominated for the Best Actress Award at the 59th Golden Horse Awards with her role as a single parent under the pandemic from The Narrow Road (2022), being the representative of new-generation actresses in Hong Kong.
