With just a day left before the 18th Asian Film Awards Ceremony, Ambassador Dean FUJIOKA, alongside four youth ambassadors — Aokbab Chutimon from Bad Genius, Austin LIN from Marry My Dead Body, LO Chun Yip from Time Still Turns the Pages, and OKADA Masaki from Drive My Car — made an appearance at apm Mall in Hong Kong on the evening of March 15. They engaged with fans, building excitement for the upcoming award ceremony.

During the event, Dean FUJIOKA shared his excitement about returning to Hong Kong, saying, “It’s great to be back in the place where my career began, especially as the Ambassador for the 18th Asian Film Awards. This makes it all the more special.” When asked about his favourite Hong Kong directors, he mentioned that he has always admired and respected Derek TSANG and Johnnie TO, and expressed his hope to return to Hong Kong for future film projects.

Aokbab Chutimon and OKADA Masaki also expressed their joy at meeting the other ambassadors. Chutimon shared, “I really love Japanese culture and hope to have the opportunity to participate in Japanese films.” OKADA, on the other hand, said, “I’d love to try action scenes in Hong Kong films and look forward to more opportunities to return here for filming and meet the fans.”

The two actors also shared valuable advice with young aspiring filmmakers. Chutimon encouraged, “Believe in yourself, keep practising, and don’t be afraid of failure.” OKADA added, “I hope the new generation will find their own path in the film industry and make the most of their strengths.”

LO and LIN also shared their excitement about finally meeting the other ambassadors in person. LO said, “Film is a gateway to the world, and it’s a great honour to meet young actors from different countries.” When asked which role he would recommend for the others if they were to swap roles, LIN mentioned, “I watched LO in Time Still Turns the Pages at the cinema, and I was really impressed with both the script and his performance. I’d love to see him take on the role of Mao Mao from Marry My Dead Body.”

The ambassadors and youth ambassadors enjoyed a lively and engaging interaction, with the audience responding with great enthusiasm. They played games, interacted with fans, and connected with the audience, creating a fun and vibrant atmosphere.

In addition, last year’s recipient of the Asia Rising Star Award at the Asian Film Awards, Win Metawin, made a surprise appearance and interacted warmly with fans. He expressed, “I’m thrilled to be back at the Asian Film Awards.” When asked about his future plans, he mentioned, “The last time I filmed in Hong Kong, it was in the Islands District. I’d love to return and perhaps try filming in the city.” He also shared his admiration for Hong Kong cinema, saying, “I hope to have the opportunity to collaborate with director Wong Kar-wai and actor Tony Leung.”

The audience responded enthusiastically, and the atmosphere was filled with excitement. This event not only served as a successful lead-up to the upcoming Asian Film Awards ceremony but also gave the audience a unique chance to learn more about the new generation of actors and the stories behind their work.
