Asian Film Awards Academy has collaborated with Broadway Cinematheque to organize internship programs annually for students with film and media related background since 2017. The program allows students who have a love of films and a keen interest in film programming and curating to gain corresponding work experience. This year, the program started in September 2023 and ended in March 2024, where interns would spend three months in each organization.

 

Location of internship: Hong Kong
Period of Internship: 6 months
To start in mid-September 2023 for 3 months: Broadway Cinematheque (Admiralty Office)
To start in mid-December 2023 for 3 months: Asian Film Awards Academy (To Kwa Wan Office)

 

Duties at Broadway Cinematheque:●Assist in writing and proof-reading of film introductions, synopses and BC’s publication in both Chinese and English
●Handle censorship submission, logistics coordination, print traffic and database management
●Assist in programming, content design and audience development
●Coordinate and conduct promotional campaigns
●Assist marketing team in events preparation during non-office hours
●Draft the promotion contents in digital media
●Help promotions at schools and press communications.
●Assist the PR Executive to increase coverage on both traditional and digital media platforms
●Assist hospitality team in executing overseas guests’ agendas, including preparation of festival badges, goodie bags, tickets, interviews, film sharing and Q&A

 

Duties at the Asian Film Awards Academy:●Assist in annual awards ceremony
●Compile and organize marketing materials for nominated films
●Draft letters/e-mails in Chinese and English, or other languages if applicable
●Draft the promotion contents in digital media
●Translate publicity materials and official documents from English into Chinese and vice versa
●Assist in events organization and research on Asian film cultures and markets
●Compile, organize and analyse data
●Assist in developing marketing and promotion channels
●Assist in drafting meeting agenda and minutes, updating AFA Academy databases and archives and proofreading daily documents.

 

Requirements:●Hong Kong Permanent Resident
●Students who are pursuing their diploma, associate, bachelor or master’s degree in film and media related disciplines
●Attentive to details, result-oriented, proactive, good with figures and strong analytical skills
●Team player – good interpersonal and communication skills
●Good command of written and spoken English and Chinese, knowledge of Mandarin is preferable
●Knowledge of Photoshop, Illustrator, Premiere Pro, Final Cut Pro is an advantage
●Knowledge of other Asian language(s) is an advantage

Asian Film Awards Academy

In 2013, three main Asian film festivals – Busan, Hong Kong and Tokyo – joined together to create the non-profit organization, the Asian Film Awards Academy (AFAA) to promote and develop Asian cinema and its talents. AFAA highlights, strengthens and develops Asian film industry and culture through the annual Asian Film Awards, and with financial support from Create Hong Kong and Film Development Fund of the Hong Kong SAR Government, several year-round initiatives for building regional and international audiences such as the Masterclass Series, Journey to the Fest, Asian Cinerama, Young Film Professionals Overseas Training Program and Film Craft Workshops.

 

Broadway Cinematheque
Broadway Cinematheque has become one of the cinephile’s favourite movie spots in Hong Kong ever since it was founded in 1996. It screens over 400 films from more than 50 countries, with up to 20 film festivals, retrospectives and film events a year. With its aim to revitalise the experience of movie-going and rediscover the function of cinema, it offers one-stop service by conglomerating cinema, café, bookstore, disc store altogether to let film buffs experience quality lifestyle at one single spot.

During the event, there was also an exhibition of recreated film scenes, inviting Thai audiences to appreciate the talents of Hong Kong new directors.
The Journey to the Fest has returned to Tokyo The Journey to the Fest student visit has returned to Tokyo International Film Festival (TIFF) after a five-year hiatus. Students enjoyed chance to exchange ideas with film students and film talents from different Asian countries and regions.
