Speech of Dr. Wilfred Wong, Chairman, Asian Film Awards Academy 

 

Good afternoon, Mr. Cheang Kai Meng, Vice President of the Macau Cultural Affairs Bureau, honorable guests from Hong Kong and Macau, and industry representatives, 

 

I would like to express my gratitude for joining us at the press conference of the International Film Camp. Today, we host this event in Hong Kong and Macau simultaneously to proudly announce the establishment of the International Film Camp. 

 

Founded by Hong Kong, Busan and Tokyo International Film Festivals, Asian Film Awards Academy has long been striving for promoting Asian films and nurturing young Asian film talents. In addition to the annual Asian Film Awards, the Academy organises series of programmes to enhance communications among film talents and breed young filmmakers. Film promotion and knowledge exchange programmes in the coming months include, Hong Kong Film Gala Presentation in Singapore, Malaysia and Indonesia, as well as Asian Cinerama in Jerusalem and Dubai, will introduce Hong Kong and Asian films of different genres and flavours to international audiences. Collaborating with Tokyo International Film Festival, the Academy is hosting Masterclass Series and Journey to the Fest, to strengthen the bond between Hong Kong filmmakers and the global market and industry. What is more, the Young Film Professionals Overseas Training Programme is sending four local young filmmakers specialise in sound production and film colouring respectively, for overseas work placement in multi-award winning sound-production company Golden Cicada in Beijing and renowned film post-production company White Light Post in Bangkok. 

 

We understand talent cultivation plays a crucial role in passing on the success of Asian film industry development. The International Film Camp assembles young and fresh filmmakers from the Greater Bay Area and Asian regions. Through workshops, seminars, script pitching and hands-on guidance from industry professionals, we aim to nurture talented youngsters and pave their way to further advancement. 

 

The Academy is much honoured to have internationally celebrated film producer Mr. Terence Chang as the Chief Mentor of the inaugural edition of the International Film Camp. Along with Mr. Chang, experienced filmmakers from overseas and other Asian regions will join as mentors and guest speakers, to offer professional advice and provide a thorough understanding on different aspects in film production to  

 

 

participants. A jury composed of veteran directors, screenwriters and producers will select eight projects from the Camp, each to receive funds of HK$300,000 for them to produce a short film to be screened in local and overseas occasions. 

 

I would like to take this opportunity to thank the Hong Kong Culture, Sports and Tourism Bureau and Instituto Cultural of Macau for their support to the International Film Camp. Being the advisory body of the programme, your insights on the development of the creative industry provide us with a clearer direction and enriched content of the programme. I would also like to thank Create Hong Kong, Hong Kong Film Development Fund and Sands China Ltd. for your sponsorship, joining hands with us to promote Asian film development and refreshing the film industry. 

 

I am inviting all of you, passionate in filmmaking and aspiring to enter the industry, to join the International Film Camp. Gathered together in Macau, I believe participants of the Camp will bring inspiration and stimulation to each other and achieve satisfaction during the creative process.
