Born and educated in Suzhou, China, Carina LAU began her acting career in 1983 at Hong Kong television network (TVB) and made her film debut in 1986 with Naughty Boys. She has appeared in over 60 films, including collaborations with WONG Kar Wai Days of Being Wild (1990), Ashes of Time (1994), 2046 (2004), Peter CHAN Ho-sun He Ain’t Heavy, He’s My Father (1993); He’s a Woman, She’s a Man (1994 & 1996), Derek YEE C’est la vie, mon chéri (1993), and JIANG Wen Let The Bullets Fly (2010).

LAU received Best Actress at Nantes Three Continents Festival, for her performance in Wong Kar Wai’s Days of Being Wild (1991). LAU is also a six-time Best Actress nominee at the Hong Kong Film Awards (HKFA), winning the honor in 2011 for her performance as Empress Wu Zetian in TSUI Hark’s Detective Dee and the Mystery of the Phantom Flame (2011). She attended the 66th Cannes Film Festival with Flora LAU’s drama Bends (2013) and received Best Actress at Osaka Asian Film Festival with her performance. She served as a jury member at the 8th Asian Film Awards in 2014 and the Oscar’s board of judges in 2017. LAU became a producer for the first time in 2017 with TAM Wai-ching’s coming-of-age drama, In Your Dreams, also starring in the film as a substitute teacher facing a marital crisis. With a commanding screen presence and timeless beauty, LAU remains one of Hong Kong’s most prolific actresses. Her recent projects include Lunar New Year comedy A Beautiful Moment (2018) and TSUI Hark’s Detective Dee: The Four Heavenly Kings (2018).
