Organization
The Asian Film Awards Academy (AFAA) is a non-profit organisation founded by the Busan, Hong Kong and Tokyo International Film Festivals with the shared goal of celebrating excellence in Asian cinema. The Academy is dedicated to promoting and recognising Asian films and film talents. Through the annual Asian Film Awards and various year-round programmes, it supports industry development and promotes Asian film culture worldwide.
The Asian Film Awards was inaugurated in 2007. AFAA members are drawn from past nominees and winners of the Awards. Award categories include Best Film, Best Director, Best Actor and Best Actress. Members vote for the Asian Film Awards and participate in various AFAA activities held across Asia and around the world.
AFAA’s year-round programmes include the Masterclass Series, Journey to the Fest, Asian Cinerama and International Film Camp. These initiatives aim to bring Asian cinema to wider audiences, expand the Asian film market, and build and sustain connections between Hong Kong and international film professionals. These programmes are made possible with the support of the Cultural and Creative Industries Development Agency (CCIDA) and the Film Development Fund (FDF). With the support of film festivals and cultural organisations, AFAA promotes Asian cinema and culture among film professionals, students and audiences in Asia and beyond, sharing knowledge and fostering a deeper understanding of Asian cinema.
